1 Merlin Future Plots List on 4th January 2012, 16:28

1. Goblins (The Odd Couple), Arthur & Gwen away, finish up with Merlin *should* return to A&G, but then everyone laughs at what a stupid idea that would be. Ending scene with Friday Knights.

2. Cursed Castle (House that Jack built/Hogwarts). Unearth artifact, easily deactivated/buried again once they find it: Merlin, Gwaine and Leon. Gwaine sets up double-date, awkwardness ensues.

3. Gnomes! A&G return, introduce Killhwch (Gwaine meets him at tavern while on patrol somewheres, invites him to Camelot b/c he is Arthur's cousin). Gnomes want to kill all the noblemen because they hunt forest creatures (Elyan, Percival, Lancelot, Gwen, Merlin? safe). They are like weeping angels (DW). Eat people. Arthur thinks they're hilarious and every time he sees one he buys it/takes it and has it put in his chambers.

4. Tapestries come to life! Elaine's hobby causes problems. Arthur's gift "bring peace to his reign" the magic in the tapestry takes this to mean that anyone who disagrees with Arthur must die! Only one safe is Leon!!! Gwaine banging Elaine's lady in waiting, a sorceress who is supplying her mistress with magical threads which bring the tapestries to life? During this episode Leon and Gwaine fight about which is better--being a generalist fighter or a specialist fighter. Leon gives Merlin advice in a roundabout way about telling Arthur about his magic. Then leon finds out about his magic.

5. Camelot under siege! "Season Finale" Some things happen: Kilhwch sells secrets to the enemy; Morgana sieges, first wave sent away (Elaine, Gwen among them), moment of crisis for Leon then reunited w Elaine at Ascolat.

Plot Notes

Gnome episode:
Leon finds out about Merlin's magic.

Caity will tell us what Merlin thinks of Galehaut.

dragon v. frea:
Frea coming back could be creepy. But if she's not dead than maybe she just can't leave the lake? that would be indeed a sad moment for Merlin. This could happen in the tapestry episode.

Sir Kay:
He's going to feature prominently in the gnome epi. We need to figure out what he does, besides pushing Leon into a thorn bush for the fun of it.

Season 2 possibilities:

Percival is a werewolf! It would explain his superhuman strength, his fast healing ability and his propensity to wear torn clothing...

Also: Sir K being mean to Leon will include him telling Leon that his cloak is on inside out at some official something or other. Considering Sir K has magic it wouldn't be that difficult.

Also, in some scene somewhere Gwaine and Leon will "discuss" which is better--two weapon fighting or cloak and sword fighting.

More things:

we need to discuss everyone's age.

Also, possibly Percival/Gwarae? they're 18 and 14, conceivably it could work and be cute. Gwaine is upset, but Gareth is not. POssibly a hilarious kissing scene where Percival accidentally pokes Gwarae with his dagger--like his literal one, but it leads to some misunderstanding. Most of this can happen in Season 2.

Leon needs to have a drink at the Rising Sun and tell people about how Galahad died. We get the first glimpses into his overprotective/immortal complex which will be elaborated on later.

There ought to be a ball or dance. However, to keep it from getting too awkward and high school it will be more like a club dance or a Ceilidh, where everyone knows how to dance and its fun times.

Leon will have to pull Gwaine off of hacking Caerleon to pieces. He totally realizes all the pain that Gwaine's actions will cause, because they do not call him Wise Old Leon for nothing.

When Gwaine hits on Galehaut for a lark, Galehaut gets offended, shouting in the bar that he may be gay but he's not a slut. This causes Leon to spit out his beer and say "He's gay???"

Sir K does not have an overarching villain plot. Basically he stays around all the time, and each epi he can have his own subplot with some goal or something (for instance: impressing Morgana, blackmailing Merlin, bullying Leon) that get finished in one epi. He's not evil necessarily.

We can't forget Mordred! He needs to be living with Morgana in her castle, being creepy.

Re. Gareth and Gwarae:

When they arrive things will be awkward at best between them and Gwaine. They remind Gwaine of what a worthless person he is; and while Gwarae forgives him immediately, Gareth is distant and cold for some time, blaming Gwaine for their hard life.

Gareth becomes good friends with Lancelot (doesn't everyone? sigh...) while Gwarae becomes good friends with EVERYONE. She loves all the knights and they all love her. Gwaine (and Gareth, but to less of an extent) think she's a perfect innocent angel, but she's actually a mini-Gwaine, and develops a crush on, well, anything with two legs, but fixates on Percival.

Most people will pick up on this semi-secret-courting-flirting-weirdness before Gwaine does.

When Gwaine finds out (Season 2), things will not be pretty: he wants to kill Percival, but Percival will immediately back down. Gareth is actually okay with it (he trusts Percival not to let things go too far more than he trusts Gwarae, because she's a hopeless flirt).

We can use this time to explore an important issue: legally, Gwaine is her oldest male relative, and therefore can tell her what she can and can't do. Gareth resents this, because he practically raised her, while Gwaine left them, so why does he get to decide? Of course, the person who should be deciding is Gwarae herself (although, really, she's fourteen, so maybe wait a few years).

On a related note...

G&G arriving will open up the floor for everyone to talk about Gwaine's past (which drives him up the wall!). To connect it back to the canon where Gawain is Arthur's nephew, we will find out over the course of this setting-the-record straight that by birth, Gwaine and Arthur are cousins through Loth. This will be news to everyone, except for maybe Geoffrey.

On an unrelated note...

Arthur and Gwen producing an heir. It doesn't happen in the canon. Should it happen in our version? With or without the aid of magic? Lots of possibilities here. At any rate there will be a year or two for people to get nervous about not having an heir yet...

Also, somewhere in there, the whole thing with Freya and if she is alive or not, and if she wasn't actually dead (I'd rather her not have been, that's just a little too creepy if you ask me) why, how (I mean, basic explanation since she certainly LOOKED dead, would be nice), and how to get her out of that blasted lake, if indeed that's what we want to happen! New Epic Ideas for the S.1 finale:

"VITA MERLINI" (Or, the Life of Merlin, taken from Geoffrey of Monmouth)

The means by which Morgana tries to take over Camelot is insidious indeed--with a powerful spell she has managed to make the foundations of Camelot crumble (we will have to make this a slow process--perhaps with every breath that Emrys takes it crumbles?) Morgana makes the spell such that Camelot can only be saved from crumbling to dust if Emrys himself spills his blood and mixes it with the mortar of the last stone of Camelot (see the last stone of Nidaros Cathedral, maybe?) Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic but then they are separated when most of the people flee to Ascolat. Arthur considers selling Merlin's secret identity out to Morgana, who has Merlin, Gwaine and Galehaut prisoner. Just as Merlin and co. are about to be rescued Merlin intends to sacrifice himself for Camelot. It turns out only a drop of blood is needed to save Camelot, and the scary part is making sure poor Merlin doesn't bleed to death. Morgana defeated, Arthur then makes Merlin tell him everything about his magic since he came to Camelot (even the Dragon bit) but he forgives him. EPIC SEASON FINALE CONCLUDED. Very Happy

EDIT: (to make it less emo) Merlin is the only one who knows that the spell means just some of his blood, not all of it. When he goes to cut his hand, though, something scares him and he cuts WAY too deep. Arthur, thinking that the spell refers to ALL of Merlin's blood, arrives just in time to see Merlin and is all "OMG he gave himself for Camelot" and instantly forgives him. Arthur can find out later that Merlin didn't try to kill himself, and he can get all mad at Merlin for scaring him, but he still will forgive Merlin at this point.

ALSO, horrible realization: MORGANA AND GWAINE ARE COUSINS!!!!

No Morwaine for me--or else it is gross and we go with it, or it's just gross and evil, or....oh, I dunno...

Oooh, shudder, that would make Morgwaine a bit creepy!

Love the idea of the cumbling castle. I know its going to crumble sloooowly, but I'm suddenly filled with the image of people being trapped by a chunk of collapsing castle. And oooh, I bet they're going to have fun (not) when Morgana is holding them captive. I like your evil thoughts Twisted Evil

13 Re: Merlin Future Plots List on 9th May 2012, 17:22

A Note on Gwaine's Love Life.

I will continue shipping Morgwaine as long as I can stand the ick, and until Gwaine stops hating himself and liking things that are bad for him. And gets over his S&M issues (well, at least with her). Razz

And until Gwaine has his Come to Jesus Moment with Arthur in our Season 2, he'll continue whoring it up.

After that, I want Arthur to make him marry Mithian. Because she was hot and why Arthur didn't marry her off to one of his knights in the show was beyond me. That's what they're there for, right??

Anyway, and then she'll be cursed to turn into an ugly hag at night, and we'll do the whole Wedding of Sir Gawain and Dame Ragnelle thing. Which will be sweet.

stuff for the Tapestry episode:
we need K and Morgana to be all hot for each other
We also need to decide whether Morgause is alive or not

things for S2:
Cenred, who also drank from the Cup of Life, has an immortal battle with Sir Leon! (epicness ensues)

15 Plot Arcs For Gwaine on 25th June 2012, 05:40

Plot arcs for Gwaine: all possibilities subject to change, ALL comments appreciated! PLEASE HALP!

1. Gwaine gets kicked out of the Knights (KRT) at end of Season 1
a. For why?
i. He will basically do anything to protect Merlin. Morgana (when she takes over and they are captured) could threaten to hurt Merlin and Gwaine would quite literally probably do anything:
1. Could be Sword and the Stone like stuff where he fights for entertainment…but with a twist? These are other Camelot guards/soldiers he’s fighting/killing?
2. Gives her some information?
ii. Upshot: Arthur is thankful that he protected Merlin, but also mad about how he betrayed Camelot.
b. Does Arthur actually kick him out or does he decide to leave?
i. Could be a pride thing where Gwaine doesn’t like getting chewed out and is all “you can’t fire me, I quit!”
ii. Gwaine hates himself more than anyone else ever possibly could, so is like “fine, I wasn’t cut out for this anyway, I’ll leave.”
iii. Arthur actually kicks him out, Gwaine is hurt but doesn’t show it, definitely doesn’t beg to be let in

2. Gwaine and Morgana = Morwaine
a. If nothing else, she’s a good indicator of how bad things are. Gwaine likes things that are bad for him, and the further off the reservation he goes when he’s on hiatus from KRT, the hotter their sex gets. Totally horns in on K’s action, which is funny
b. The side issue is do we want to redeem Morgana? As much as Morgana is a “bad” indicator for Gwaine, Gwaine could be her “good” indicator: forgiveness is a lot more believeable when you see another sinner redeemed…

i. I do like the idea that they can never get together permanently, because it is sad. Either she’ll stay evil or she’ll be redeemed and die. Gwaine is really cursed in love (though it doesn’t always seem like it haha).
ii. On the other hand, I also enjoy happy endings
1. But we can stick Gwaine with Mithian or something for the happy ending.
c. I want Morgana to want to have Gwaine’s baby for her evil machinations. Incest babies are Arthurian canon, and always evil. There could be a prophecy involved (like she’ll have a child by a KRT, so once K is out he is out, ha). Plus, angst for Gwaine
i. Evil baby could be Mordred, somehow, wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey nonsense. Dunno. Magic.
ii. Evil baby could be…some evil creature, like a dragon or something, a la the Angelina Jolie Beowulf movie. Magic somehow.

3. Gwaine being redeemed, KRT again, options:
a. What’s his status as not-KRT?
i. Not banished from Camelot, just no longer a knight
ii. Loveable vagabond again
iii. Is this a regression?
iv. He does things for Arthur that the chivalric code prevents the others from doing. Like assassinating bad guys.
v. He double-agents it up, pretends to work for Morgana or other baddies, still occasionally maybe reports to Arthur
vi. How far does he fall? How many different women/beers per night? How much more live-fast-die-young-look-out-for-number-one is he? How clear is it that he really misses Camelot and KRT? (this will be heavily dependant on When, see below)
b. When
i. Nearly immediately. He gets fired end of S1, is back in the first or second story of S2
ii. End of Season 2, along with helping start a war
c. How
i. Actually, it all starts when he kills Caerleon. Maybe Arthur tells him not to, maybe Gwaine just does it. He has a motive, of course, Caerleon ruined his life and killed most of his family. Also maybe Caerleon’s trying to start a war, Gwaine makes preemptive strike, though it’s not his call.
ii. It’s in reaction to Leon’s reaction to this that Gwaine snaps. Leon is DISAPPOINTED, and also says he’s given up, that Gwaine can do whatever he wants, he’ll even look the other way so he doesn’t have to take Gwaine back to Arthur for punishment. Gwaine has complete change of heart, doesn’t want to kill anymore, revenge isn’t as sweet as it was supposed to be, he realizes how far off the bandwagon he had fallen and wants to go back to KRT
iii. Arthur is not pleased, though, and won’t kill him but actually banishes Gwaine, but Gwaine is crushed, and refuses to leave. There’s a contest of wills, but Arthur sees Gwaine has changed and eventually decides to keep him…..
d. Why? Arthur could have plenty of motivations
i. Finds out Gwaine is his nephew
1. Arthur could refuse to recognize this for a time, until Gwaine earns it
2. This could be something that breaks Gwaine, kills him with kindness where he’s surprised anyone would want to claim him as family, and Arthur is glad to have a relative who’s not plotting his death.
3. This alone is probably the least satisfying, though, because Gwaine would see it as blatant nepotism and hate it. Maybe even Arthur could offer and Gwaine refuses because of the circumstances?
ii. Plot somehow related to killing Caerleon, like yes, he killed Caerleon and started a war, but turns out Caerleon was going to start a war anyway. Also weak
iii. Gwaine reminds Arthur a lot of Morgana—redeeming him feels like redeeming Morgana. This is really Freudian and weird and probably cannot stand alone, but should be involved.
iv. Sees Gwaine’s sudden interest in Loyalty: he tells Arthur he’d rather die than be banished from Camelot, and since he sort of gave himself up willingly and is acting really weird and stuff, he must be serious…
e. In What Capacity?
i. Is Gwaine immediately reinstated into KRT?
ii. Does he have to be a footsoldier for some time and work his way back up the ranks? (Only works if his redemption comes early)
f. Character arc
i. He realizes that loyalty to friends and family is a core part of his being and is the only thing that makes him happy, despite always trying to act like he’s a bad, bad man (independent, selfish, hedonistic). This could potentially “wrap up” a part of his fatal flaw (though he could always have more).
ii. He needs structure and people depending on him. Still, this vies with his independence, and he bucks the system and he has to negotiate it. This would work better maybe if Gwaine is a footsoldier for some time?
iii. Also, you know, SIBLINGS… Gareth is ever a source of guilt, and Gwaine is always trying to be deserving of Gwarae’s love

BA notes: dealing with how to be a knight should take a whole season character arc, and not be resolved mid-season (even if he does become a knight again mid-season)

16 Gwaine and Galehaut character arcs on 17th October 2012, 04:45

Gwaine's and Galehaut's arcs are similar but turn out very different based on personality and situation. We should discuss this! This could happen in two scenes: One between Gal and Gwaine during the "flirting" phase of the Lance/Gal relationship, and one between them in S2 where Gal tries to offer Gwaine some insight.

How are Gwaine's and Galehaut's arcs similar and different due to similarities and differences of personality and situation. A nice 4-cell chart should do it.

17 Re: Merlin Future Plots List on 17th October 2012, 15:15

you need to make Merlin go darkside

from dreams
Cait 9:55 PM
ooooh, crap, you're right
Maeg 9:55 PM
THAT's what S5x1 and 2 should have done

Merlin is wigging the fuck out because of the dreams
Cait 9:55 PM
established that THAT'S his problem?

Maeg 9:55 PM
starts acting not Merliny

Cait 9:55 PM
he's gonna have to start wigging the fuck out if he's going darkside

I mean

he hasn't been sleeping
Maeg 9:55 PM
yes and then it escalates!
Cait 9:55 PM
so he could totally think it's from lack of sleep at first

like you know how if you haven't slept in too long you have the weirdest damn dreams?

could be like that, but then they don't just stop once he gets enough sleep
Maeg 9:56 PM

and then he's wigging out BECAUSE he's going darkside

and that only makes it worse
Cait 9:57 PM
Maeg 9:57 PM
and he starts being snippy with people,

not caring if Gwaine's captured or dead, for example
Cait 9:57 PM

Cept our Gwaine isn't getting captured or dead
Maeg 9:58 PM
Cait 9:58 PM
do you think this is something that should fit in to our's this season, or is there already too much going on?
Maeg 9:58 PM
oh no, I'm thinking for next season

but up to you
Cait 9:59 PM
Yeah right okay, I hoped so

I was gonna be like

"Megan, I'm great at troubleshooting and all, but that ain't fittin'."

and hey, somehow Freya can contribute to the craziness, I'm sure
Maeg 10:00 PM
Cait 10:00 PM
like he can totally think that whatever he did to get her out of the lake is partially the root of whatever's going on

and uh, at some point, we'll have to actually come up with a reason why it's happening

like if Morgana has FINALLY figured out that she can go after Merlin and get at several people that way

I mean, loads easier picking on a servant than the king or one of his knights, right?
Maeg 10:03 PM

and after she knows about his magic
Cait 10:03 PM
oh she's finding out?

K is telling her, huh
Maeg 10:04 PM
well once everyone knows??
Cait 10:04 PM
well yeah that's true

and it could even be super innocent enough at first, like he has random prophetic dreams but not about anything bad

just... oh hey, that happened
Maeg 10:05 PM
Cait 10:05 PM
and then they get definitely NOT harmless

oh man, yeah, he'd go all ten shades of freaked out
[10/16/2012 10:10:27 PM] Maeg: so it's sort of a self fulfilling prophecy
[10/16/2012 10:10:41 PM] Maeg: like "i might go darkside" is what makes him go DS
[10/16/2012 10:11:18 PM] Cait: And I had another thought but I'll let you finish reading first
[10/16/2012 10:12:31 PM] BA: yes what's your thought?
[10/16/2012 10:12:39 PM] Cait: it's a long thought
[10/16/2012 10:14:14 PM] Cait: but I think, after everyone finds out about his magic, Merlin is probably still going to be crazy uneasy about actually doing magic around any of them- just because it makes /them/ uneasy and he'd just as soon not deal with getting sidelong looks or whatever
[10/16/2012 10:14:26 PM] BA: ok
[10/16/2012 10:15:16 PM] Cait: and I would like, eventually, for him to get the hell /over/ it, but more because he realizes that he's perhaps being a little over-reactive about how everyone /else/ is reacting? Does that make any sense?
[10/16/2012 10:15:32 PM] Maeg: yes that sounds good
[10/16/2012 10:15:42 PM] Cait: is it lame?
[10/16/2012 10:16:50 PM] Maeg: no I think it's good. it seems like it would be hard to show vs. tell, but it's a good plan
[10/16/2012 10:16:55 PM] Cait: Razz I reckon now that I've improved dialogue (which I was really bad at) I better work on learning how to figure out plots and character development
[10/16/2012 10:17:30 PM] BA: yeah i think that works well. Leon will, after all, only be wary of Merlin for the S1 finale--after that he may be a bit scared of magic but trust that Merlin can handle it. does that make sense/
[10/16/2012 10:17:39 PM] Cait: well, but not /so/ hard to show instead of tell, if he's still kind of sneaking around about it
[10/16/2012 10:17:47 PM] Cait: yeah that makes sense
[10/16/2012 10:18:23 PM] Cait: but Merlin, because he wasn't quite expecting /that/ reaction, or not to that extent, then assumes everyone else is... I dunno, freaking out about it but not telling him
[10/16/2012 10:18:28 PM] Maeg: oh yes okay
[10/16/2012 10:19:17 PM] Cait: nnnngh, not, though, that he thinks they hate him- he probably knows they don't, and thinks that's WHY they're not saying anything to him about it
[10/16/2012 10:20:20 PM] Maeg: all of the feels. he can be really confused and torn about everything
[10/16/2012 10:20:29 PM] Cait: yeeeeah basically
[10/16/2012 10:20:44 PM] Cait: unless that's too emo
[10/16/2012 10:21:58 PM] Cait: Cause if he's sneaking around, still, goodness knows it's not like he'll be doing magic for fun- and honestly I think that's almost a good indicator of how he's coping, if he's not doing magic for /fun/
[10/16/2012 10:22:02 PM] Cait: BA has thoughts
[10/16/2012 10:22:04 PM] Maeg: nahh. just make it more angry and give poor Merlin some agency instead of pouting and being helpless or cockblocked for stupid reasons like they do in the show Wink
[10/16/2012 10:22:26 PM | Edited 10:22:31 PM] BA: i think that works. OH could there be a scene at the end of S2 where Leon actively trusts Merlin's magic with something important? To help Merlin realize that his magic can truly be a force for good? Because that's something I've always wondered about Merlin--does he start to view his own magic as evil because he has seen magic be used for so many bad things by basically every other magic user out there....?
[10/16/2012 10:22:37 PM] Cait: yeah
[10/16/2012 10:22:41 PM] Cait: oh man I think that's great
[10/16/2012 10:22:42 PM] Cait: yes
[10/16/2012 10:23:02 PM] Cait: because he'd DOUBLY think that if he thinks he's going all darkside
[10/16/2012 10:23:11 PM] Cait: like maybe magic /does/ make people evil eventually
[10/16/2012 10:23:42 PM] BA: like if I were Merlin I would have a complex and think that my magic was something to be ashamed of--and in general be really wary of using it especially in front of people
[10/16/2012 10:23:54 PM] Cait: right, which is also what I was thinking
[10/16/2012 10:24:04 PM] BA: i don't think it should actually MAKE him evil though.
[10/16/2012 10:24:08 PM] Cait: no no
[10/16/2012 10:24:12 PM] Cait: no, he just thinks it will
[10/16/2012 10:24:15 PM] Cait: because he's paranoid
[10/16/2012 10:24:15 PM] BA: oh ok
[10/16/2012 10:24:16 PM] BA: i see
[10/16/2012 10:24:19 PM] BA: then yes!
[10/16/2012 10:24:23 PM] BA: I think this is a good idea
[10/16/2012 10:24:35 PM] Cait: and he's having creepy dreams he thinks are prophetic that're Morgana's(?) fault
[10/16/2012 10:24:47 PM] Maeg: well, okay, with the evil
[10/16/2012 10:24:50 PM] Maeg: I have a comment on that
[10/16/2012 10:24:56 PM] Cait: Just like she did before she went waaaaay off the reservation
[10/16/2012 10:24:59 PM] Maeg: I mean, *how* evil is still debatable
[10/16/2012 10:25:03 PM] BA: *stowing it in future Merlin plots* oh do we want to go down the Order of the Phoenix road?
[10/16/2012 10:25:20 PM] Cait: I read that book once, and so fast I don't remember any of it.
[10/16/2012 10:25:47 PM | Edited 10:25:56 PM] BA: After Harry got prophecies from Voldy, Voldy gave him fake ones and led him into a trap, essentially
[10/16/2012 10:25:54 PM] Cait: oh
[10/16/2012 10:25:57 PM] Cait: yeah, basically
[10/16/2012 10:25:59 PM] Cait: man, I forgot that
[10/16/2012 10:26:18 PM] Cait: reckon someone's gonna jump our case for it?
[10/16/2012 10:26:21 PM] BA: there was a movie I think Wink
[10/16/2012 10:26:26 PM] Cait: haha
[10/16/2012 10:26:58 PM] Maeg: but the thing with Merlin is he's already perfect. He's not screwed up in the way Leon and certainly not Gwaine are. So for him to have a strong character journey I feel like he needs to go down before he can come up properly, and have it matter. He makes mistakes, but that's less dynamic. I mean, we need to bring him back to the place where he poisons good Morgana, and then make him earn the right to be the "good guy" again, much less the perfect sweet innocent darling
[10/16/2012 10:27:13 PM] BA: hahaha ummm no i don't necessarily think so. I mean it depends on how we do it. Prophecies can get annoying if Merlin's running around like a chicken with his head cut off only to realize hes been had
[10/16/2012 10:28:05 PM] Cait: so, Megan, like do the wrong things for the right-or-mostly-right reasons?
[10/16/2012 10:29:04 PM] BA: yeah
[10/16/2012 10:29:07 PM] Cait: although I'd argue that poisoning Morgana was not for a really spectacular reason, cause lordy, were there like ten other better ways he could have handled that situation
[10/16/2012 10:29:21 PM] BA: yeah but he thought it was the only way, so I think it counts
[10/16/2012 10:29:25 PM] Cait: yeah
[10/16/2012 10:29:38 PM] Maeg: right, yeah. well there's diff things going on there, too
[10/16/2012 10:29:47 PM] Cait: the dragon did not help
[10/16/2012 10:29:49 PM] BA: that could be a good journey he takes: learning about justification and means to particular ends
[10/16/2012 10:29:50 PM] Maeg: I dunno I feel like they're shying away from any real dynamism with Merlin
[10/16/2012 10:29:57 PM] Maeg: he more makes mistakes than anything
[10/16/2012 10:30:07 PM] Maeg: there's really nothing "wrong" with him except that he screws up sometimes
[10/16/2012 10:30:09 PM | Edited 10:30:19 PM] Cait: I don't know, they go much further down the road they are traveling this season...
[10/16/2012 10:30:34 PM] BA: but I think that's a major flaw in his character--he gets one intended goal in his head and kind of ignores other consequences
[10/16/2012 10:30:43 PM] BA: so exploring that could be really interesting
[10/16/2012 10:30:52 PM] Cait: yes he has that teenage boy thing going on
[10/16/2012 10:30:53 PM] BA: *gasp* hes like Uther in that respect
[10/16/2012 10:31:08 PM] Maeg: ohhh yes! that's true!
[10/16/2012 10:31:11 PM] Cait: um, not that I don't actually sympathize with that, as heaven knows I get a little single-minded
[10/16/2012 10:31:18 PM] Cait: oh MAN if anyone ever said that to his face
[10/16/2012 10:31:27 PM] BA: ARTHUR COULD SAY IT
[10/16/2012 10:31:32 PM] Cait: he would be both furious and unbelievably hurt
[10/16/2012 10:31:56 PM] Cait: THAT would be grounds for disappearing into the old dragon cave to mope and rage about it for a few hours
[10/16/2012 10:32:03 PM] BA: because conceivably Merlin will be the royal loyal advisor when his magic is revealed, and what if he started making decisions based on good intentions but with bad repercussions?
[10/16/2012 10:32:33 PM] BA: hahah that'd b a laugh, casting Arthur as the wise one
[10/16/2012 10:32:43 PM] Maeg: oh yeah
[10/16/2012 10:32:44 PM] Cait: oh, I dunno, I like it
[10/16/2012 10:32:52 PM] Cait: he deserves to be the smart one once in awhile
[10/16/2012 10:33:29 PM] Cait: and it would be neat to see ARTHUR giving the advice for once
[10/16/2012 10:33:45 PM] Maeg: agreed
[10/16/2012 10:34:18 PM] Cait: kind of "What the hell is wrong with you, you are acting like a crazy person and I am concerned"

[10/16/2012 10:34:35 PM] Cait: that's usually Merlin's job, to tell Arthur when he's acting like a crazy person

How are Gwaine's and Galehaut's arcs similar and different due to similarities and differences of personality and situation. A nice 4-cell chart should do it.

I love you.

21 Gwaine's Character Arc on 21st October 2012, 20:04

Season 1: Gwaine is not a knight

Episode 5: Tapestry
-Pinnacle of happiness
-Kills Floree (accident, she's in disguise or something)
-Sibling angst (Gareth is Leon's squire, doesn't want to be associated with him)
-Maybe there should be some mention of wanting to kill Caerleon here, so that it's clear Gwaine has been nursing it for a long time (see S02E04).

Episode 6: Finale
-Chooses Merlin over Arthur
-Betrays Arthur & Knights
-Is kicked out of the knights, but not killed or banished, siblings still in court (Gareth inherits title? Gwaine renounces it? Probably also find out that Lamorak wasn't Gwaine's dad, anyway)
-This is where Gwaine wanted to be in the first place: FREEDOM!

Webisode: Last Friday Knight
-Gwaine really gets to use and abuse his new-found freedom and lack of responsibility

Season 2: Gwaine is a knight

Episode 1: Friday Knight Live
-Gwaine is still glad he's not a knight
-Or at least this is what he tells himself
-Is clearly not being good to himself, on some sort of downward spiral

Episode 2:
-Find out that Gwaine is Arthur's cousin
-Arthur wants to forgive him and welcome him back into the knights/his family
-This is blatant nepotism, and Gwaine freaks out and leaves. He wants to EARN his old job back, and ironically goes around doing the opposite of anything to deserve it.
-He can do what he wants, which, in his warped little brain, is a laundry list of dirty deeds Arthur would never do but needs done (killing a few rival kings, for instance)...

Episode 3:
-Gwaine is gone from Camelot for a while
-Sends a few gifts from far-off. Sacks of treasure for siblings and Merlin, signet rings (not heads, because that's tacky) of rival kings/lords for Arthur, but nothing international-incident worthy
-Maybe he "joins" the Guild of Calamitous Intent (Morgana? Cenred? Caerleon?) to bring them down

Episode 4:
-Gwaine goes way off the reservation and kills Caerleon. Maybe there was a plot against Arthur's life that he finds out about
-Arthur is trying to make peace with these guys (admittedly bad guys, it's a trap, etc.), and sends Leon, others, to make sure this goes well
-Leon tries to stop Gwaine from killing Caerleon, it doesn't work, because this is the guy who ruined Gwaine's life and there's a personal vendetta there that he thinkgs matters more
-But revenge doesn't satisfy him, and actually kind of breaks him.
-Returns to Camelot to face Arthur. Leon is super disappointed. Merlin and Percival are disappointed. Gareth and Gwarae are disappointed/don't understand. Arthur is livid and banishes him
-Gwaine refuses to leave, he and Arthur have a battle of wills
-Arthur decides not to exile or even kill him, seeing his remorse and hearing his promises to change. Forgives Gwaine but does not forget, re-instates as palace guard or some low, menial station.

Episode 5:
-Gwaine slowly earns everyone's respect and trust back, in small and big ways

Episode 6: Finale
-Possibly culminates in a Ragnelle situation, which redeems Gwaine, and he is made a Knight of the Round Table once again (and recognized as Arthur's kin)
